Wood Flooring: Engineered, Solid and Parquet
Sovern Group supplies engineered and solid wood flooring in oak, walnut and maple to the trade: three-layer, multi-layer, solid and thermally modified boards, in plank, herringbone, chevron and block parquet patterns, from a thin 8/2 construction to 20/6. Colour and finish are made to your request, and OEM is available.
What is engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood flooring is a real-wood floor built in layers. The face is the actual species, oak, walnut or maple, laid on a three-layer or multi-layer base. The layers of the base run in different directions and hold the face steady, which is why long and wide boards are made this way. Solid wood flooring is cut from one piece of timber; we supply it alongside the engineered range, in short formats.
A construction is written as total thickness over wear layer, in millimetres. 15/4 is a 15 mm board with a 4 mm wood wear layer on top of the base. The engineered range runs from 20/6 and 15/4 through 15/3, 14/3 and 10/3 to the thin 8/2 and 10/2 constructions. Some formats are listed by thickness alone, for example 15, 18 and 19 mm, and the wear layer for those is confirmed on enquiry.
Parquet is the word many buyers use for patterned wood floors laid from short strips and blocks. We supply them as herringbone, chevron and block flooring, and as Dalles de Versailles panels. In herringbone the blocks meet at a right angle; in chevron the ends of each board are cut at an angle, so the boards meet in a clean point. Chevron panels are supplied in two grades, and block flooring is made of squares of short strips.
Thermally modified wood is offered in thin 8/2 and 10/2 constructions in oak, walnut and maple, and in maple for indoor flooring and for outdoor decking. The surface carries a water-repellent coating and the tongue and groove is wax-sealed on all four sides, to keep spills on the surface. It does not protect against flooding, leaks or moisture from the subfloor.

Wood flooring: common questions
What is the difference between engineered and solid wood flooring?
Solid wood is cut from one piece of timber. Engineered wood has a real wood face on a three-layer or multi-layer base whose layers run in different directions, which keeps long and wide boards steadier. We supply both, plus thermally modified boards.
What does a construction such as 15/4 mean?
The first number is the total thickness of the board in millimetres and the second is the wood wear layer on top. 15/4 is a 15 mm board with a 4 mm wear layer. Our engineered range runs from 20/6 to 10/3, with thin 8/2 and 10/2 constructions.
Do you supply parquet, herringbone and chevron?
Yes. We supply herringbone, chevron panels (1880 x 300 mm, 14/3), block flooring (1920 x 240 mm) and Dalles de Versailles panels (600 x 600 mm), in oak, walnut and maple. Sizes and the combination you need are confirmed on enquiry.
Can I choose any colour or finish?
Yes. Wood flooring is made in the colour and finish you ask for. The catalogue shows 28 reference finishes, from natural and light grey tones to burn-aged dark and matt black, as a starting point.
Is thermally modified wood waterproof?
No. The water-repellent coating and the wax-sealed tongue and groove keep everyday spills on the surface, but they do not protect against flooding, leaks or moisture from the subfloor. Care and cleaning instructions are supplied with the floor.
Can I order wood flooring under my own brand?
Yes. We make every flooring product to OEM, in your colour and finish and under your brand. Samples of any board can be arranged, and MOQ, lead time and FOB/CIF are quoted per project.
